SeaDek Frequently Asked Questions

SeaDek is a superior alternative to marine carpet and traditional molded-in non-skid. Designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the marine environment, SeaDek is made from UV-resistant closed-cell PE/EVA foam that will not absorb water, and provides exceptional traction when wet or dry. SeaDek’s shock absorbing qualities deliver maximum comfort on the water, and fishermen appreciate its sound-dampening properties. SeaDek is fully customizable, and brings an aesthetically pleasing style to boats of all sizes

SeaDek utilizes an acrylic-based pressure sensitive adhesive for a robust bond and easy peel-and-stick application.

Yes. SeaDek adheres very well to most molded-in non-skids and properly applied and maintained aggregate type non-skid paints, as long as the surface is cleaned properly prior to installation. For extremely aggressive textures, we recommend sending photos or acquiring samples for testing.

The best method to clean SeaDek is withSeaDek's Dek Magic Cleaner, which is specifically formulated for PE/EVA foam. If Dek Magic is not available, SeaDek cleans easily with soap, hot water, and a stiff brush. For stubborn areas, a number of household products can be used. Do not use acid-based cleaners such as MaryKate's Hull Cleaner.

For best results, use a fresh bladed razor knife. You may have to change blades during the job, depending on the amount of cuts made.

Custom SeaDek pricing is based on number of sheets used.

Yes! We provide free estimates for all projects over the phone and/or email. Due to our current demand, we are not able to provide free estimates on location.

The largest SeaDek sheets available measure 40”x80”.

In the harshest conditions, SeaDek can be expected to last 5-7 years. If the boat is covered and/or well taken care of, a longer life is likely.

SeaDek products are warranted to be free from any defects at the time of purchase. The PE/EVA blended material has a 3 year material and workmanship warranty. The PSA cannot be warranted due to many outside issues that may be present during installation. Please contact us for full warranty details.

Yes. Obtain the dimensions of the desired pad and contact us to request a quote.

As with any flooring products, darker colors will naturally become warmer in the sun. With that being said, SeaDek will not become too hot to stand on, and dispels heat very quickly thanks to its closed-cell structure.

While SeaDek sheets can be seamed, we do recommend against it. Over time, the PE/EVA blended material may naturally shrink up to ¼”, and for this reason, we suggest leaving a ½” gap between parts.

With proper surface preparation and installation, a minimum of 5-7 years can be expected.

SeaDek is designed for a semi-permanent installation, but can be removed. The best method is to use a plastic putty knife to get under one corner, then grip and pull off. If the PE/EVA seems to be sticking and tearing, apply small amounts of acetone to the PSA and continue lifting with the putty knife. You may want to enlist another set of hands to assist. Once the entire pad is removed, there will be a small amount of PSA left on the surface. Soak with mineral spirits for 10 minutes, scrape with the plastic putty knife and a rag. Once the PSA has been removed, use acetone to remove the mineral spirits.

Use acetone or alcohol and a clean rag to remove any dirt, sunscreen, wax, sweat, etc. Scrub well and let dry completely. If the boat is new, you should repeat several times, as new boats often have residual mold release that may hinder adhesion. Be sure to check local and states laws regarding chemicals before using any questionable substances on the water.

Many people use SeaDek to keep pets firmly planted on the boat, however SeaDek is made from PE/EVA blended foam materials, so if scratched or clawed at enough, the product will tear or rip. With this being said, SeaDek’s closed-cell material will not absorb water if punctured. SeaDek is not warranted against pet damage.

It is recommended that SeaDek be applied in temperatures above 60 degrees Fahrenheit in dry conditions.

SeaDek is extremely stain resistant, however a few substances, such as fuel stabilizers, bird droppings, rust, and mustard can be problematic if not attended to in a timely manner. Prompt attention to these types of spills will ensure easy removal.
